This week, we're talking about firearms policy advocacy and more Brett is joined by Craig DeLuz, who is the Director of Legislative and Public Affairs for the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), a 501(c)4 grassroots, non-partisan, nonprofit organization that advocates for individual liberties and important constitutional rights, particularly the 1st and 2nd Amendments.
Craig is a commentator on radio and TV in the Sacramento area. He’s also a writer, actor, public speaker, and the founder of Uncommon Sense Media Group. He’s been a community servant since the early 90’s, serving on his local school district board, he was the Deputy Chief of Staff for the State of California, and just to show off, he’s got a degree in Finance from Chico State. Needless to say, he has an incredible background and a lot to say on firearms policy and more.

Firearms Policy Coalition
Founded in 2012, the Firearms Policy Coalition or FPC is a 501(c)4 grassroots, non-partisan, nonprofit organization that advocates for individual liberties and important constitutional rights. They have a special focus on those rights protected under the First Amendment (Free Speech, Association, etc...), Second Amendment (Right to Keep and Bear Arms), Fifth Amendment (Takings, Due Process), and Fourteenth Amendment (Due Process, Equal Protection, Privileges and Immunities). They also advocate for sound public policy, and related issues through legal action, direct and grassroots advocacy, research, education, outreach, and other programs.
The FPC mission has four main pillars...
- "To protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and the People’s rights, privileges and immunities deeply rooted in this Nation’s history and tradition, especially the inalienable, fundamental, and individual right to keep and bear arms"
- "To protect, defend, and advance the means and methods by which the People of the United States may exercise those rights, including, but not limited to, the acquisition, collection, transportation, exhibition, carry, care, use, and disposition of arms for all lawful purposes, including, but not limited to, self-defense, hunting, and service in the appropriate militia for the common defense of the Republic and the individual liberty of its citizens."
- "To foster and promote the shooting sports and all lawful uses of arms."
- "To foster and promote awareness of, and public engagement in" everything mentioned in the previous three bullets.
FPC is dedicated to helping its members and supporters stay up to date on all the latest policy and legal issues that threaten individual rights and freedoms granted in the constitution. Their grassroots efforts continue to impact their community at large in positive ways. Advocacy isn't easy, but FPC has succeeded by fostering a strong membership base with a clear direction and engaged leadership.

Idaho Dear Alliance (IDA)
IDA was Established in 1990 by a group of conservation minded deer hunters and avid sportsmen under its former name of Deer Hunters of Idaho. The organization operated for two decades raising money to fund projects to improve wildlife habitat, research projects, hunter education programs, and other like efforts. IDA continues those efforts while expanding their presence in Idaho to promote sportsmen and women collaboration to help conserve the hunting heritage in Idaho for future generations.
Their objectives are 4-fold:
- They aim to Promote conservation efforts for Idaho’s deer populations.
- They Work hand-in-hand with IDFG, other government agencies, other organizations, and sportsmen and women to maintain and build habitat for Idaho deer herds.
- They Advocate for the future of Idaho’s deer populations and the future of Idaho’s conservation and hunting opportunities.
- They Promote youth and women involvement in conservation efforts and provide hunting opportunities wherever possible.
IDA serves as a shining example of an organization doing great work on behalf of their local community. Many congratulations to them on their award and I’m sure they’re going to keep up the amazing work!
